Itching, pain, dryness and irritation defined Chelo's skin until she discovered CBD. Today, she tells us her story with dermatitis and the calm she achieved and maintains thanks to this natural option.

WHAT DOES A PERSON WITH DERMATITIS FEEL?

“In my case, it is what for another person may be a simple itch on the skin. Well, that itch is not just an itch, that itch is burning, physical pain in parts where one normally does not feel pain, an ear, an arm, a finger can hurt, my face hurts, my entire face hurts.” - Chelo
Atopic dermatitis is a chronic skin disorder characterized by dryness, irritation and peeling of the skin. As Chelo tells us, one of the biggest problems is the itching and burning, which makes us scratch, feeding back into the cycle of irritation and peeling of the skin ( 1 ). It is an autoimmune disease , meaning our own immune system attacks healthy tissues. Although this condition is not debilitating in most cases, it is really uncomfortable to live with dermatitis, and not only because of the physical pain. On a mental level , due to the frustration of not being able to soothe the skin, insecurities or comments from others, we can develop more serious disorders. Although body positive movements are also being extended to different skin types, the reality is that certain prejudices and behaviours such as frightened looks, rejection and even harassment at younger ages still exist .

DISCOVERING CBD TO TREAT DERMATITIS

“I was looking for the properties of CBD like so many other natural products and I said, why not? I've tried so many things , why not try this natural one? We're going to look for the most organic option possible and in the end this test worked very well for me.” - Chelo
The substances most recommended for treating various topical ailments such as eczema, psoriasis and pruritus are corticosteroids and steroids . These are immunosuppressants, blocking autoimmune processes, which are beneficial and necessary for fighting infections (as long as they are not attacking our own body). In short, these treatments are inhibitors and block natural processes, such as inflammation, but excessive or prolonged use can generate tolerance. Therefore, they are suitable for specific cases and their chronic use is not recommended. As Chelo thought, CBD offers a natural option that regulates skin processes and allows it to be balanced without such serious side effects ( 2 ). The anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties of Cannabidiol act because our skin is full of cannabinoid receptors and CBD acts as a key to activate our endocannabinoid system through these receptors ( 3 ).

HOW TO USE AND COMBINE CBD PRODUCTS?

“One day I decided to try mixing the cream with CBD drops and that greatly enhances the effect of the cream, but ultimately I think it is the effect of the two products together.” - Chelo
CBD skin care products you can find are: The ideal routine is to apply the CBD Revitalizing Cream in the morning and the CBD Moisturizing Cream at night, to a previously damp face, rubbing lightly with your hands to warm the cream and spread it in circular massages. Once absorbed, the 3% CBD oil comes into play . Pour 2-3 drops onto your palm, pat it in and let it absorb. Another equally correct and compatible option is to mix the amount of cream that we are going to apply with the 2-3 drops of oil directly in your hand and spread it by massaging it in. You can also give your body the same pampering with CBD Lotion , applying it after your shower. Once a week, it is recommended to use the Hani+ mask , made from rosemary honey, CBD and olive oil. Use one or two tablespoons of this and apply it to your face or the areas where the afflictions are. Then, leave it on for 20-30 minutes and remove it with water. When outbreaks occur , whether due to temperature changes, stress, routine changes, etc., it is very useful to use this mask and cover the area with a bandage at night . Here we leave you a post with the routine in case you want to save it to consult it later:
WHAT CHANGES ARE OBSERVED IN THE SKIN WHEN USING CBD?
“The first thing that happened was that I felt it stronger . As the days went by, I started to see it a little brighter , which in my particular case was very dull, and it was like giving my skin a little life. [...] I started to tolerate makeup much better, when I take it off and use the cream at night, I don't feel like I'm compensating for the damage I've done to my skin with makeup, but quite the opposite, I feel like I'm continuing what I started on the first day .”
The CBD + Honey combination represents a promising future for dermatological ailments, especially those that are autoimmune and cause inflammation and itching. On the one hand, as we have been saying in this blog, CBD has, among others, regulatory, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antipruritic (anti-itch) and antioxidant properties . Since our skin is full of cannabinoid receptors, its effects are very effective and noticeable ( 4 ). On the other hand, honey (organic and natural) is antioxidant, antiviral, antiseptic, antibacterial and moisturizing ( 5 ). Thanks to these properties, you can see and notice that your skin is brighter and stronger, hydrated and calm, with less inflammation and redness. However, without a doubt, the most important thing is consistency and knowing how to listen to your skin. Nothing is a panacea, so you have to find the right routine and combination for each skin type. Thank you, Chelo, for telling us about your adventure. Literature
